One of the hardest questions in science is, of course, “why?”. And out of many great “why” questions to ask, one of the most fascinating one is “why is life on Earth the way it is?”. In this presentation Nick Lane, an evolutionary biochemist in the Department of Genetics, Evolution and Environment, University College London, tells the story of life on Earth and what fundamentally shaped it.
