TED: The Flower-Shaped Starshade

| April 20, 2014 | 0 Comments

In this recent TED talk Jeremy Kasdin, the  Principal Investigator for the Princeton Terrestrial Planet Finder, discusses a revolutionary starshade that could be used for detecting Earth-like planets. In particular, the flower petal-shaped starshade that Jeremy Kasdin and his colleagues are working on, will allow a telescope to photograph planets from 50,000 kilometers away. As one might imagine, such a mechanism is hard to build, but, according to Kasdin, the initial testing has already taken place with positive results.
