Leonard Susskind on The Black Hole Wars

| June 24, 2013 | 0 Comments

In this talk at the Perimeter Institute Leonard Susskind gives his account of the famous “black hole wars” between him, Gerard ‘t Hooft and Stephen Hawking. As Susskind describes it, black hole wars were a 25 year-long intellectual battle between two ideas. Stephen Hawking, in his famous work, played with an idea that ultimately information could be lost in a black hole — an idea that, according to Susskind, violated the main principles of physics. This head-on collision of scientific ideas lead to a long struggle by Susskind and his colleagues to show that Hawking’s ideas were wrong.
