One of the most amazing things about our world is that, at first glance, it seems that its complexity violates the second law of thermodynamics. In particular, everything in our universe tends to go from complex and highly ordered state towards chaos, whereas any form of life seems to be a violation of this principle. In this TED talk David Christian explains why the second law is not violated. Along the way he overviews the history of the universe and how the laws of physics played a role in the emergence of life. For more TED and TEDx talks visit our list of physics TED talks.
